This is a very interesting and informative study. This only suggests that we should really care for our teeth and gums to prevent cavities, caries, tartar and other bacteria that are linked to diseases and other health condition.

The findings in this prospective VA study complements previous studies reported by this group and others which indicate that periodontal disease at an early age, i.e., < 60 years is associated with cardiovascular morbidity, but not in individuals over 60 years of age. This seeming contradictory finding can be explained by the fact that patients < 60 years of age with periodontal disease either died of their cardiovascular condition before age 60, or had their teeth extracted and survived into their 60s . Thus the association of edentulism in old age with cardiovascular disease may reflect early life periodontal problems, as well as poor eating choices associated with edentulousness.

Thanks for this notice and the link to the Medline article about CHD and periodontal disease. You've made it pretty easy to stay up-to-date!

Thanks also for the links - I thought I was well-informed about preventive dentistry, but I'd never heard of the World Congress of Minimally Invasive Dentistry before.

All really interesting and helpful.
